Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi May 17, 2026 : GPM Becomes Chhattisgarh’s First District to Complete Census 2027 Phase-I in Record Time,
In a remarkable administrative achievement, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi (GPM) district has become the first district in Chhattisgarh to complete 100 percent of the Phase-I Census 2027 operations ahead of the official deadline. The district successfully completed the House Listing and Housing Census within just 17 days, setting a new benchmark in the state.The first phase of Census 2027, which includes House Listing and Housing Enumeration, is officially scheduled across Chhattisgarh from May 1 to May 30, 2026. However, under the leadership of Collector and Principal Census Officer Dr. Santosh Kumar Dewangan, GPM district completed the entire exercise before the deadline, achieving full completion by May 16, 2026.Dr. Dewangan stated that the successful completion of this nationally significant task was made possible through continuous monitoring, regular reviews, dedicated teamwork, and relentless door-to-door efforts by officers and employees engaged in the census operation.
He emphasized that quality execution within the stipulated timeline was treated as a mission by the district administration immediately after he assumed charge.,,,Notably, when Dr. Dewangan took charge on May 8, 2026, the district’s census progress stood at only 6 percent. Through intensive coordination and administrative supervision, the work rapidly accelerated and reached 100 percent completion in record time.A total of 513 enumerators and 85 supervisors were deployed across the district for the operation. By May 11 itself, work in 252 House Listing Blocks out of the targeted 528 blocks had already been completed, reflecting the administration’s aggressive pace and effective field management.During the survey, enumerators visited households and collected detailed information regarding housing conditions, amenities, and facilities through a 33-point questionnaire.
