Raipur, 15 June 2024// Under the PM JANMAN Yojana, an ambitious Central Government scheme, primitive tribes in Chhattisgarh are being provided with basic amenities and pucca housing in their settlements. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has allocated Rs 300 crore in this year’s budget for the implementation of this scheme in the state. Special instructions have been issued to all district collectors to ensure rapid implementation of the scheme in areas predominantly inhabited by tribal communities.

PM JANMAN Yojana, launched for the first time in the country, aims to uplift these special backward tribes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated this scheme from Ulihatu, the birthplace of Lord Birsa Munda. The scheme is being rapidly implemented in Chhattisgarh, benefiting Birhor, Pahadi Korwa, Baiga, Kamar, and Abujhmadia communities. These families are getting pucca houses in place of thatched ones, along with access to drinking water, electricity, and roads in their settlements.

During the fiscal year 2023-24, the scheme approved 333 roads covering a total of 1180 km at a cost of Rs 847 crore. These roads will benefit 366 settlements of special backward tribal groups. In addition, approvals have been granted for 15,154 families to receive houses under this scheme. A budget of Rs 300 crore has been allocated for the financial year 2024-25 to continue implementing this initiative. For the fiscal year 2024-25, a budget allocation of Rs 349 crore has been reserved to strengthen 346 roads covering a total length of 1419 km under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

Hear it from the beneficiary

Smt. Bhukhna, a resident of Gram Panchayat Hargawan in Balrampur district, shared her story, describing how she and her family had previously lived in a kutcha house. Reflecting on her past hardships, she emotionally recounted that she had never imagined she would live in a pucca house in her lifetime; it had seemed like a dream. However, through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana under PM JANMAN, the government approved the construction of a pucca house for her. With financial support from the government and her own savings, she was able to build her new home. She expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai for their support.
