Raipur 10 July 2025// As India advances toward energy self-reliance, PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is fast becoming a dual engine of economic relief and environmental responsibility for households in Chhattisgarh. One such success story comes from Anil Kumar Sahu, a resident of Dabhra in Sakti district, who has transformed his home into a model of clean, cost-effective energy use.Shri Sahu installed a 3-kilowatt rooftop solar system on his residence, which now generates between 16–18 units of electricity per day during summer, and 10–12 units during the monsoon. Within just one billing cycle, his electricity bill dropped into the negative, and is now consistently at zero. Surplus power generated is fed into the grid, allowing him to earn credits and generate income.“This is not just about saving money. It’s about securing the future—for my family and for the planet,” said Sahu, who availed a Rs 78,000 subsidy under the scheme and received a 10-year performance guarantee on the system. He estimates that the installation will pay for itself within two to three years, after which the system will continue to yield pure savings. Sahu expressed deep appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, calling the scheme a revolutionary step toward making India energy independent at the household level. The implementation process is notably simple and transparent. Consumers can register online via a dedicated portal or mobile app. An authorized vendor installs the system, and after inspection and verification, the subsidy amount is directly transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account. The initiative is rapidly gaining traction across both urban and rural regions of Chhattisgarh, where it is helping to reduce dependence on conventional energy sources, lower household expenses, and promote a culture of sustainability and decentralized energy generation.
